Excise department has filed 59 proposals under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949 against liquor bars in the district.
The Pune division excise department cracked down on illegal liquor activities, arresting 1,179 people and seizing 982 vehicles and ₹5.55 crore since October 21. Good behavior bonds totaling ₹11.80 crore were taken.
Excise superintendent Charan Singh Rajput mentioned that teams were formed under state excise commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi and district election officer Suhas Diwase for the operation.
The department filed 59 proposals against liquor bars in the district under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, with bonds worth ₹11.80 crore taken in 12 cases. Three cases of Goa manufactured liquor were detected, with goods worth ₹41.77 lakh seized.
Eighteen temporary checkpoints were set up to curb illegal liquor traffic, inspecting suspicious vehicles. A dry day has been declared in the district starting from 6 pm on November 23, with liquor sale licenses remaining closed.
